Day One - Student Perspective

Today was pretty neat. After waiting til midnight last night to start packing for the trip, it finally hit me when I got to the airport that it was really happening, that after all this time waiting we for finally going to El Salvador. Being the sleep deprived college student that I am, I was looking forward to our 4 hours worth of flights to catch up on some long lost sleep... So naturally me and Mallory managed to play hangman for the entire flight. It was cool to see that even before we touched ground in El Salvador, friendships were already being made and inside jokes were already being created.

Once we landed we were struck by something that is common in Florida but we haven't had for a while. Heat. It must have been upwards of 90 degrees as we exited the airport and as close to 100% humidity as you can get. Enrique (our guide) met us with hands full on food and a cooler of water which all of us were stoked about! From the airport we came to our hotel, and after settling in, a few of us decided to go exploring. We found this really cool bridge and had a photo session:

From there we went back to the hotel, rode with Enrique to a local church and got the awesome opportunity to meet some of the kids that are involved in YoungLife here. Younglife is all about breaking down barriers that separate kids from each other, and it was really awesome that even though both groups spoke different languages, we were able to communicate and laugh through games and things like Little Sally Walker (a YoungLife camp classic). We played soccer for a bit and ate another heavenly meal (the food here is AMAZING), then came back to the hotel, worshipped for a little bit, and now here we are!
